Sophie Teaching

Watercolour is sometimes an unpredictable medium - but it doesn’t have to be scary. In my watercolour workshops I aim to help students be bolder, and will demonstrate techniques such as using large blocks of colour washes to get the painting on the move quickly and create depth.

The tuition will be tailored to the individual's own personal development, whether they are total beginners or experienced painters.

Working directly from still lifes and then from landscape photos, we will explore different ways of working: ‘wet on wet’ and dry brush techniques, spraying the paper with a fine mist of water and working into the slightly damp paper, scratching into the pigment and even squeezing the paint straight on!

I am an experienced teacher with a PGCE teaching qualification and have been running private watercolour courses intermittently for the past 35 years.
